Message from Local Police Inspector

Good morning,

I’m Inspector Dan Gahagan. I’m the Inspector for Derby West Local Policing Unit, which covers the areas of Rosehill, Normanton, Abbey, Mickleover & Littleover.

I wanted to send a message to thank and congratulate the communities of Normanton and Rosehill following the events of last week. When a major incident occurs, especially in a residential area, it is a true test of not only our ability as a Constabulary to respond to it and our ability to work with our partners to ensure public safety, investigate crime and to return the area to a state of normality, but also a test on the community.

On this occasion, and in what was a fast moving incident, the community response to it was what I can only describe as outstanding. The understanding of affected residents, businesses, community groups and others was exceptional. The community spirit and the coming together of community groups was a sight to behold and enabled us and our partners the time and space to manage the incident safely and effectively.

Undoubtably, there remains questions and concerns following this major incident. Officers from my Safer Neighbourhood Team remain in the area and continue to work with partners to provide clarity and to reassure.
