Reporting Hate Crime

Alert message sent 14/10/2019 11:03:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner

Crimes committed against someone because of their disability, transgender-identity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation are hate crimes and should be reported straightaway.

Hate crimes can include threatening behaviour, assault, robbery, damage to property, harassment, and inciting others to commit hate crimes.

There are many ways in which a victim can report an incident which includes face-to-face, over the phone or online. This could be to your local police force, or anonymously through a service like Stop Hate UK www.stophateuk.org

What is important is that you report it and never suffer in silence, although you can speak to services without reporting the crime to the police.
