First Abbey Community meeting feedback

This Monday passed, 25th March, we held the first of the new Community meetings at Bramblebrook Community Centre. The theme was Crime and crime prevention in the Abbey area, and to discuss and answer any concerns raised, problematic areas, and rumours in the community that contribute to perceived crime. Representatives from Derby City Council, Local Councillors and MP Amanda Solloway were also in attendance to discuss any specific issues raised.

It was a very productive and engaging meeting with some very good points raised, concerns shared and lots of inspirational members of the community speaking up. It was a chance for residents to speak openly about what they want for their community, and how they want those who work in it to help shape it. Following the meeting Sergeant Dutton and PCSO Supervisor Coleman, who lead the meeting, devised and tasked the following to their team:

1: Officers from our Youth engagement team to work with Stockbrook Colts and any other youth engagement groups in the area.

2:  Further patrols on Stockbrook park at night- reports of nuisance youths, street drinking and generally feeling unsafe once it is dark.

3: Further patrols around Churchside Walk and Parliament street due to nuisance tenants, drug dealing and graffiti.

4: Better times for engagement; some of ou rprevious events occur during the day and the community advised it would be preferable for them in the evening or weekends.

5: More focus on education and enforcement on E-scooters- a project is being planned towards this

6: Area around Dunkirk shops- e-scooters and e-bikes being used in an inconsiderate manner by takeaway delivery companies.

7: Bedford Street and Stockbrook Street area being used for e-scooters, public urination, graffiti and fly tipping

8: ASB reported on Lehman Street.

9: Nuisance tenant on Churchside walk- this is ongoing work invovling a multi agency approach

10: A more direct system to contact the local team, as opposed to 101 or Facebook, to discuss ASB.

Based on the community feedback we are aiming to conduct these types of meetings every 2 months at Bramblebrook Community Centre, where we can update on the above, and discuss any further concerns moving forward.

A huge thank you to both Dean and Kenny for their continued input, guidance and dedication to the community.
