Staying safe this Easter

Good morning and happy Easter everyone!

Latest news: Operation recall

Derbyshire Constabulary are supporting a national campaign taking place this Easter weekend that urges dog walkers to stay safe when around livestock. Derbyshire is lucky to be surrounded by countryside to enjoy and it is important to go out and enjoy the nice weather too. However, it is important to remember that the countryside is a workplace for many and a home to thousands of animals.

If your dog chases any livestock, it is a crime but will also cause emotional and financial damage to both the farmers, land owners and the animals. Livestock worrying is a criminal offence under the Dogs Protection of Livestock Act 1953. ‘Worrying’ is when a dog attacks or chases livestock resulting in injury or death and a farmer is allowed to kill a dog that is worrying the livestock. You must always keep your dog under control when around other animals and if you see another dog on the loose worrying animals, report it online.
