Mini Police get a visit from our Road Policing Unit

This afternoon the Fairfield Junior Mini Police had a visit from our Road policing Unit.

They got to ask lots of questions regarding their Role and what type of incidents  they attend .

"The RPU is a “24/7” department covering a wide range of specialisms, using high performance marked and unmarked vehicles.

It aims to focus on Fatal 4 offences (Speed, Seatbelts, Mobile Phone & Drink / Drug Drive) and to ensure all national NPCC road safety campaigns throughout the year are carried out around the County.

The department proactively targets and tackles both vehicular crime on arterial routes and criminals using the roads throughout Derbyshire.  RPU cars are kitted out with real time ANPR and video functions.

The team have primary responsibility of attending fatal and high level serious collisions, and the initial investigation into them.  In addition, RPU provide Family Liaison Officers (FLO’s) to support the families of those persons killed in a road traffic collision.

RPU are the forces fast road response to incidents occurring on the road network, such as dual carriageways and the M1 Motorway as well as being the primary resource for resolving pursuits and carrying out vehicle tactics."
