Counterfeit Money

Attention High Peak Businesses!

We've had reports of counterfeit money being offered as payment across the High Peak area.

It's crucial to stay vigilant and ensure you're not falling victim to these scams.

Here are some tips to help you identify fake money and protect your business:

How to Check for Counterfeit Money:

  • Feel the Texture: Genuine currency has a unique texture and slightly raised ink. If the cash feels too smooth or too soft, it might be fake.
  •

  • Check for Watermarks: Hold the bill up to the light. Authentic notes have a watermark that matches the portrait on the note and is visible from both sides.
  •

     Additional Tips:

  • Train Your Staff: Ensure all employees know how to check for counterfeit money.
  • Use Detection Tools: Invest in counterfeit detection pens and UV lights.
  • Report Suspicious Behaviour: If you suspect that someone is attempting to scam / offer false payment and you believe that the cash is fake, let us know!
  •
