Struggling in the Water? - πŸ›Ÿ FLOAT TO LIVE πŸ›Ÿ

Glossop SNT - πŸ›Ÿ FLOAT TO LIVE πŸ›Ÿ

With the summer holidays approaching and the possibility of more hot weather, many of you will be heading for a dip in our lovely local waters to cool off.

Think - β€˜No matter how warm it gets, don't swim in open water, such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs or quarries’

  • Cold water shock can cause muscle cramps and breathing difficulties.

  • Hidden debris and rocks can cause you to get trapped.

  • β€˜NEVER’ enter the water to help someone else in difficulty (if able throw something to them that floats) - Call 999 immediately

If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, your instinct may be to thrash and swim.

🚫 DON’T 🚫

Instead, remember this message:

πŸ‘‰ FLOAT TO LIVE πŸ‘ˆ

1. Tilt your head back with ears submerged

2. Relax and try to breathe normally

3. Move your hands and legs to stay afloat

4. Don’t worry if your legs sink, we all float differently

5. Call for help by raising an arm, or if your able, swim to the safety of the shore.

🧑 You don’t need to be a strong swimmer to survive. Just remember to FLOAT. πŸ›Ÿ
