Glossop SNT - Shed or Outbuilding Security Advice

Heading away for a few days? Or not checked on your shed or outbuildings for a while -  then please take five minutes to check that your shed or outbuilding is secure.

Many people don’t secure their sheds or garages as well as they do their homes. That’s a problem, especially when they often contain valuable items like bikes, tools, or lawnmowers.

Opportunistic burglars know this, and they’ll often target these spaces first, sometimes even finding tools inside to help them break into your home.

Here are a few quick tips to help you stay one step ahead:

🔒  Lock it up tight - Use a strong padlock with no exposed screws. Don’t forget to check the hinges - are they secure and tamper-proof?

🪟  Think about windows - If your shed has windows, consider adding wire mesh or metal grills to make them harder to break into.

🚲  Secure your bike inside - Even inside a locked shed or garage, it’s worth locking your bike to a ground anchor or a secure stand.

✅  Hide what’s inside - Cover up valuable items like bikes or mowers with an old sheet or blanket to keep them out of sight.

⛔  Don’t make it easy - It might sound obvious but always lock up, even if you’re just popping inside for a minute.

Think twice and stay one step ahead of the criminals.
