Lunchtime Drop-in Session at Glossopdale School - Promoting Cadet Recruitment and Hate Crime Awareness Week - Monday 13th October

Glossop SNT - School Engagement/Lunchtime drop in session at Glossopdale School

PCSO Buller of the Glossop Youth Engagement Team (YET) completed a school engagement at Glossopdale School & Sixth Form on Newshaw Lane, Hadfield today, Monday 13th October.The visit took place during lunchtime at the school. There are 2 lunch breaks for the different year groups, these are held between 12.30 pm and 2.10 pm.

Part of today's planned visit was to promote ‘Hate Crime Awareness Week 2025’. Our aim was to display information about what a hate crime is, what are the monitored strands and the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) definition, including learning about the effects hate crime (and hate incidents) have on victims and the community at large.

🔴 Definition of a Hate Crime - A hate crime is when a Criminal Offence is committed which is perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated by hostility or prejudice on personal characteristics (monitored strands).

🔵 Monitored Strands - * Disability (seen or unsee) * Race/Ethnicity * Religion/Faith/ Belief * Sexual Orientation * Trans Status * Alternative Sub-Cultures (since 2016) * Gender (since April 5th 2021) 

Secondly the team were there to promote Derbsyhire Police Cadet recruitment for the Glossop Cohort - which closes at the end of October.

We're looking for young people particularly from the Glossopdale and New Mills areas. Specifically 13 to 18-year-olds and our sessions are held on Wednesday evenings between 7pm & 9pm during term-time.

Once again It was also an ideal opportunity to complete some Derbyshire Talking Youth Surveys with some of the young people at lunchtime today.
