South Derbyshire Safer Neighbourhood Team along with officers from the Local Policing Unit have worked in successful collaboration with our specialist Neighbourhood Crime Team, RCU and RPU and National NPCC Operation Opal targeting burglary and auto crime in South Derbyshire. During this operation we have:- 👮Arrested a total of 15 persons, 🚗 Completed 779 vehicle checks, 🚗Stopped 212 vehicles, 🚗Conducted 16 vehicle searches, 👮Conducted 5 person searches, 🏠Conducted 7 post arrest property searches and 🚗Recovered 17 vehicles
Inspector Leanne Craig said “Vehicle-related crime, including theft from and theft of vehicles, remains a key concern for our local community. In response, we have made this a community policing priority across South Derbyshire. We are working with the National Police Chief’s Council Initiative Operation Opal to develop intelligence-led approaches and deliver targeted operations. These include proactive patrols based on crime analysis and emerging trends. In addition, we continue to promote and support crime prevention events in partnership with South Derbyshire County Council , ensuring residents are equipped with practical advice and tools to protect their property. Tackling vehicle crime is not just a policing priority it is a shared commitment with our community. We take this issue seriously and will continue to take robust action to prevent and disrupt offending”
Detective Inspector Remi Hopkins who oversees the Central Neighbourhood Crime Team has said “Serious Acquisitive crime, including vehicle theft, is often linked to wider organised criminality. We are committed to identifying and disrupting those responsible, using intelligence led investigations and working closely with regional and national partners such as Operation Opal. Our teams are actively pursing offenders, recovering vehicles and gathering evidence to bring those involved to justice. We understand the impact these crime shave on victims and communities, we will continue to prioritise this work to ensure South Derbyshire remains a safe place to live and work”
