Private e-scooters are illegal to ride on public roads, pavements or cycle lanes in the UK. If you use one in public it can be seized, you can be fined and you may get penalty points.
The only legal public use is hire e-scooters from approved trials. Those operators supply insurance and the scooters are allowed on roads and cycle lanes, private e-scooters are still only legal on private land with the owners permission.
Anyone still choosing to ride them in public should be aware they risk losing the e-scooter altogether police can size them and crush them.
