Appeal for key witness to come forward after man is racially abused and assaulted in Derby |
||
|
We are trying to find a key witness who tried to intervene when a man was being racially abused and assaulted in Derby. The incident happened when the victim was driving his car in Mercian Way when a man in another car shouted racial abuse at him. The car sped off in front of the victim and then stopped bringing both vehicles to a halt in Uttoxeter New Road before the man got out and again started shouting racial abuse towards the victim. Both drove off a short distance before the man got out of his car once more and punched the wing mirror of the victim’s car before assaulting him. The victim, a 33-year-old man, had to go to hospital for treatment to his shoulder and hand. The suspect is described as a white man, aged about 50 to 55, with a stocky build, bald head and was wearing a white t-shirt. He was driving a grey Audi A3 at the time of the incident, which happened at about 5.20pm on Friday 19 December. Officers have made extensive enquiries into the incident but no arrests have been made yet. When the assault was happening a member of public stopped to intervene to help the victim. We are appealing for this person to please come forward and make themselves known to officers as we believe they may be able to help us with our investigation.
