Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) conducted foot patrols in Willington yesterday, (Saturday 3 January).
Whilst on Kingfisher Lane in the village, locals approached police and complained about a recent upturn in household items being discarded on a children's playground.
The dumped items included the remnants of a festive luncheon and other food product.
The food-related detritus was discarded near a horse grazing in a field, which if eaten by the animal can cause significant harm.
The local parish council has reported the incident to South Derbyshire District Council for investigation.
