This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by Local Policing Inspector Leanne Craig, alongside Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors Sgt Luke Adams and PCSO Supervisor Kerry Wallington Waite. Community priorities are reviewed quarterly and guide the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team.
In this update, you’ll find: • A summary of the previous priorities • The actions taken and outcomes achieved • The new priorities for the upcoming quarter
Neighbourhood Priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from the community through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. Etwall, Hatton & Hilton Previous Priorities were:- 1. Enhance road safety by addressing obstruction, speeding and anti social vehicle use. 2. Prevent and detect serious acquisitive crime, particularly offences involving motor vehicles.
Action Taken:- Road Safety and Crime Partnership Work: Local officers have worked closely with CREST (Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team) to improve road safety and reduce crime across South Derbyshire. Safer Parking Around Schools: Guidance was shared via social media, Derbyshire Alert and in person to remind parents and carers about safe and considerate parking. Officers also carried out high visibility patrols at schools to engage with families and reinforce these messages. Tackling Serious Acquisitive Crime: As criminals often travel between areas, we have taken a proactive, cross border approach. A dedicated operation is now running with the Central Neighbourhood Crime Team, focusing on prevention and detection to keep communities safe.
Outcomes Road Safety: During recent patrols aimed at preventing obstruction, speeding and anti social driving, officers arrested two individuals for disqualified driving and driving under the influence of drugs. Dedicated Crime Operation: As part of this targeted operation, we have: • Made 19 arrests • Checked around 800 vehicles • Stopped over 200 drivers
Officers have conducted numerous searches of people, vehicles and properties, recovering several stolen vehicles. Recent examples include three vehicle pursuits leading to arrests and charges for burglary, public order offences, disqualified driving and failing to stop. One arrest led to the recovery of £10,000 worth of stolen property, now returned to its owner. Community Engagement and Prevention: Working with the Central Neighbourhood Crime Team (which focuses on burglaries and robberies), we have provided targeted crime prevention advice both directly and via Derbyshire Alert. Victims and those at risk have also been referred to the Safer Homes Crime Prevention Service for additional support and home security improvements.
