This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Leanne Craig, in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors, Sgt Luke Adams and PCSO Supervisor Kerry Wallington-Waite. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find: • A summary of the previous priorities • The actions taken and outcomes achieved • The new priorities for the upcoming quarter
New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact.
Church Gresley, Woodville, Hartshorne and Swadlincote's previous priorities were: (Newhall/Midway and The Seales areas will be posted separately over the next few days) 1) Enhance road safety by addressing offences such as highway obstruction, speeding and the anti-social use of vehicles. 2) To address all offences associated with Anti-Social behaviour and in particular shop theft.
Action Taken: During the last quarter, we’ve been working hard to deliver on your priorities through targeted high-visibility patrols, community engagement, and crime prevention initiatives aimed at reducing victimisation as well as efforts to improve road safety.
Outcomes: Anti-social vehicle use: We issued Section 59 Warnings (Police Reform Act) and seized vehicles under Section 165 of The Road Traffic Act, targeting illegal e-scooters and motor vehicles being used unlawfully. Driving Under the Influence: Officers arrested a suspect for driving while under the influence of alcohol, reinforcing our commitment to road safety. Road Safety Partnership Work: Working with CREST, we carried out visits to prevent offences and promote safer roads including Community Speedwatch schemes Speed operations on Stirling Road and York Road to help reduce speeding and improve safety in these areas. School Engagement: We visited local schools to educate pupils on road safety and responsible behaviour. Anti-Social Behaviour Action: A fine was issued for riding a bike in an anti-social manner on Swadlincote High Street. A male was arrested for anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and driving offences on the High Street. He was charged and remanded for several offences. A closure order was granted on a local premises to stop it’s use for anti-social behaviour following repeat demand at the address. High-visibility patrols continue in the town with a high number of engagements in the town. The Public Spaces Protection Order continues to be used proactively to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Following this review, the SNT has identified the following new priorities for the upcoming quarter for The Church Gresley, Woodville, Hartshorne and Swadlincote area.
1. Reduce Shop Theft in the Town Centre and Surrounding Areas. 2. Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour in Church Gresley. 3. Improve Road Safety and Parking in Key Locations.
In relation to Road Safety, we will: Conduct regular high visibility and plains clothes patrols in known hotspot areas. Work with Community Speedwatch where appropriate. Engage with the local community to gather feedback and share updates. Promote road safety awareness through school visits and youth engagement sessions. Take proactive enforcement action against offences such as obstruction, speeding, and anti-social driving. Work with Roads Policing Unit for joint operations where necessary. Collaborate with local councils/highways to identify infrastructure improvements (signage, traffic calming). Share updates and crime prevention advice via Derbyshire Alert and social media. Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting.
In relation to ASB and Shop Theft, we will: We will identify hotspot areas through crime pattern analysis and deploy high visibility patrols to act as a deterrent. These patrols will be recorded and regularly evaluated to assess their effectiveness. Officers will work closely with local businesses to ensure they are aware of available crime prevention measures and support services. This includes offering guidance on reporting procedures, security improvements, and staff safety. We will continue to investigate reported offences and take appropriate action to bring offenders to justice, using all available powers. Updates will be shared with the public and local businesses through our online platforms, including Derbyshire Alert and social media, as well as through direct engagement at community meetings and events.
