This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by Local Policing Inspector Leanne Craig, alongside Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors Sgt Luke Adams and PCSO Supervisor Kerry Wallington Waite. Community priorities are reviewed quarterly and guide the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team. In this update, you’ll find: • A summary of the previous priorities • The actions taken and outcomes achieved • The new priorities for the upcoming quarter
New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from the community through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. Newhall and Midway's Previous Priorities were:- 1. Enhance road safety by addressing obstruction, speeding and anti-social vehicle use. 2. To address all offences associated with Anti-Social Behaviour.
Action Taken Road Safety: Local officers have worked closely with CREST (Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team) to improve road safety and reduce crime across South Derbyshire. We have also been conduction our own speed checks in the area. Work with Schools: Guidance was shared via social media, Derbyshire Alert and in person to remind parents and carers about safe and considerate parking. Officers also carried out high visibility patrols at schools to engage with families and reinforce these messages. We continue to engage with young people from the local community to address anti-social behaviour. Proactive use of police powers such as stop and search continue to be used where applicable to deter criminality. Proactive High Visibility Policing and Engagement: Our local officers have been actively patrolling key areas identified through data analysis and patrol strategies. During these patrols, they are engaging with the community, offering advice, listening to concerns, and gathering feedback to help shape future policing priorities.
New Priorities for Newhall/Midway areas are:- 1. To continue to improve road safety. 2. Address off road motorcycles in the South Drive and Park Road area. 3. Prevent and detect serious acquisitive crime, particularly vehicle related offences.
Actions- Road safety: Regular high visibility patrols in hotspot areas. Work with Community Speedwatch where appropriate. Promote road safety through school visits and youth engagement. Enforce against obstruction, speeding and anti social driving. Conduct joint operations with the Roads Policing Unit. Share updates and advice via Derbyshire Alert and social media. Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community. Work with councils and key stakeholders on long term solutions.
Tackling the use of off-road motorcycles: In addition to the above we will look to work with the motorcycle unit and drone teams where information and intelligence allow.
Acquisitive Crime: High visibility and plain clothes patrols based on crime trends. Share crime prevention advice through Derbyshire Alert, social media and community events. Promote security measures such as steering locks, CCTV and vehicle marking. Engage with residents and businesses to raise awareness and encourage reporting. Work with national teams (e.g., NPCC, Operation Opal) to disrupt organised vehicle crime. Conduct stop checks and use ANPR where appropriate. Work with local authorities, Neighbourhood Watch and security partners.
