This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by Local Policing Inspector Leanne Craig, alongside Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors Sgt Luke Adams and PCSO Supervisor Kerry Wallington Waite. Community priorities are reviewed quarterly and guide the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team. In this update, you’ll find: • A summary of the previous priorities • The actions taken and outcomes achieved • The new priorities for the upcoming quarter
New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from the community through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. Previous priorities were : 1. The prevention and enforcement of Drug Offences. 2. To address all offences associated with Anti -Social Behaviour and in particular shop theft. 3. Prevent and detect serious acquisitive crime, particularly vehicle related offences.
Action taken: The anti-social use of vehicles such as off-road bikes/e-scooters has been targeted through high-visibility patrols and through the seizure of illegal vehicles. Direct engagement with local shops to raise awareness around shop theft and the best way to report this. For anti-social behaviour we have conducted regular high-visibility patrols, delivered school talks to raise awareness of anti-social behaviour and the impact this has in the community. These talks have also allowed us to discuss the legality of e-scooters and off-road bikes. In tackling drug crime we have continued working on developing our information and intelligence to target key suspects. This has allowed us to proactively use police powers such as stop and search, which has seen several positive results.
For the next quarter our priorities will be as follows:- 1) Address Anti-social behaviour in Dracan village. 2) Continue improvements on Road safety. 3) Prevent and detect serious acquisitive crime, particularly offences involving motor vehicles.
Key Actions :- Dracan village. We will Continue to work with schools to engage with young people around understanding ASB and how to avoid it, conduct High-visibility patrols in the area and continue to work with the local housing authorities and other local partners to address long-term problems. For repeat offenders we will work with the Youth Engagement Team and the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership to deflect those offenders causing further issues.
Road safety.- Conduct regular high visibility patrols in hotspot areas. Work with Community Speedwatch where appropriate. Promote road safety through school visits and youth engagement. Enforce against obstruction, speeding and anti-social driving. Conduct joint operations with the Roads Policing Unit. Share updates and advice via Derbyshire Alert and social media. Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community. Work with councils and key stakeholders on long term solutions. High‑visibility and plain‑clothes patrols based on crime trends.
Acquisitive crime- Share crime prevention advice through Derbyshire Alert, social media and community events. Promote security measures such as steering locks, CCTV and vehicle marking. Engage with residents and businesses to raise awareness and encourage reporting. Work with national teams (e.g., NPCC, Operation Opal) to disrupt organised vehicle crime. Conduct stop checks and use ANPR where appropriate. Work with local authorities, Neighbourhood Watch and security partners.
