A Message from Inspector Leanne Craig – South Derbyshire Policing Update.
Happy New Year, as I promised back in November 2025, I’ll continue to provide quarterly updates on our local community priorities here in South Derbyshire. For those who may not know me , I’m Inspector Leanne Craig, the Local Policing Inspector for South Derbyshire. I lead both our Response Teams and our Safer Neighbourhood Teams across the local policing unit. My commitment remains the same: to engage with our community, solve problems collaboratively, and ensure those who cause harm are held accountable – all while working alongside residents and partners to keep South Derbyshire Safe.
Now that we’ve entered 2026, I’d like to share our community priorities for this year, along with some key updates on the priorities set in October 2025.
Our Approach South Derbyshire is divided into six policing areas, each with its own tailored local community priorities. These priorities are shaped by what you tell us matters most and by local crime and incident data. Each area will receive its own update soon, but here are some key highlights for the whole area:
What we’ve achieved over Winter - Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) We have implemented targeted patrol strategies based on analysis to make our patrols as effective as possible. Using the ASB incremental approach, we’ve taken action against those causing harm, introduced long term problem solving plans, and delivered education to the public and young people on prevention and enforcement.
- Road Safety Working alongside partners such as Community Speedwatch and CREST, we’ve tacked road safety concerns and seized illegal vehicles causing ASB under the Police Reform Act.
- Drugs Enforcement We’ve executed warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act, removing drugs and criminal proceeds from those committing offences
- Serious Acquisitive Crime Hundreds of vehicle stops have been carried our as well as searches of vehicles, people, and properties to target offenders involved in burglaries and vehicle theft. We’re continuing long term problem solving with the Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Team
- Crime Prevention We’re working closely with South Derbyshire District Council as always to prevent repeat victimisation and protect potential victims
Setting Priorities Together- Your feedback and local crime trends have shaped our latest priorities. Some remain unchanged because the concerns persist, while others have evolved to reflect what matters most to you now.
Thank you to everyone who has engaged with us, please keep sharing your concerns and information. It really does make a difference. You can do this via Derbyshire Alert by signing up to become a member and completing the survey.
