PC Boniface and PC Williams on patrol are notified by their in car ANPR system to a vehicle of interest/disqualified driver.
The vehicle is stopped near to the A444 with officers instructing the driver to get out the vehicle. The driver has reversed out at speed onto the main road and failed to stop with officers commencing a pursuit.
Despite poor weather conditions, the driver has driven dangerously and at speed through Linton before travelling onto the wrong side of the road, loosing control, striking a tree and then ploughing into another which such force, causing the tree to be knocked down with the BMW loosing wheels and various parts of the car before finally coming to rest in the middle of Cauldwell Road.
The driver had exited through the window and jumped over a hedge into fields with officers chasing him on foot. Driver is restrained and arrested for Failing to stop for police, Dangerous driving, Failing to stop at the scene of a collision, Driving whilst disqualified and no insurance.
Mitchell Bird, 29 years old of no fixed address was charged for all offences. Due to previous incidents and already being under a disqualification issued by the courts and putting the public at such high risk of serious injury, officers sought a remand into Prison pending the court date. Bird has how attended Derby Crown Court and has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with time served on remand NOT to be included. He has been further disqualified from driving for 6 Years 7 Months 15 Days and must passed an extended test and ordered to pay court costs.  | |
