Local officers in Chesterfield have teamed up with Chesterfield FC Community Trust and the Community Safety Partnership to create a ‘community patchwork t-shirt’ to help promote all the activities available for young people in the area. As part of the team’s focus on anti-social behaviour and retail crime during the Government’s ‘Winter of Action’ campaign, they are working with the trust to encourage young people to get involved in the range of activities offered. These include: Mixed football sessions on Fridays for ages 11 – 18 Girls football sessions on Tuesdays for ages 11- 16 Dance and drama sessions on Tuesdays for ages 8 -18 Wednesday night multisport and gym sessions PCSO Supervisor Matthew Adcock said: “We will continue to be out and about as normal throughout the winter, but as part of this project we wanted to highlight that there are things to do in the evening in Chesterfield for young people – and that we want to work with, and not against, them. “Where there is problem behaviour, we will continue to address this with the perpetrators, but we also want to address the causes and prevent these issues occurring long term. The ‘patchwork t-shirt’ represents all the partnership work that is happening in the area to offer activities for young people. The t-shirt will be popping up at various events, as we encourage children and parents to get involved in something positive.” The t-shirt was created from a combination of football, council and police kit by the local ‘Knit and Natter’ group, and will now be used in this campaign throughout the Winter of Action and beyond. | ||
