Crimestoppers launches new campaign across Derby City to empower communities to speak out anonymously |

The charity Crimestoppers has today launched a new campaign across Derby City, to empower local people to speak out about crime, 100% anonymously. The campaign supports Derbyshire Constabulary’s Project Flex, which aims to help create a safer place to live by tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and the harm caused by organised criminal activity. A key part of Project Flex focuses on building trust within communities and giving people the confidence to report information safely, which is why police have partnered with the independent charity Crimestoppers. The campaign will be delivered across Derby City through Crimestoppers and its youth service Fearless, using a targeted social media approach to reach residents of all ages. In addition, a leaflet drop will take place to ensure that those without access to social media are also aware of the anonymous reporting service available to them. The campaign highlights Crimestoppers’ and Fearless’ unique anonymity guarantee and encourages members of the community to speak out about crime without fear. Information can be shared safely and anonymously about issues such as drug dealing, exploitation, organised crime, gangs, anti-social behaviour and individuals who are causing harm within local neighbourhoods. Information can be given 100% anonymously to Crimestoppers in over 150 languages, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by calling the UK-based Contact Centre on 0800 555 111, or by completing a safe and secure online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org Young people can also report anonymously through Fearless.org Lydia Patsalides, East Midlands Regional Manager for the charity Crimestoppers, said: “It’s vital that people across Derby City know they have a safe way to speak up about crime in their community, without fear and without giving their name. Some people have information but don’t know who to turn to, or worry about the consequences of speaking out. Crimestoppers and our youth service Fearless are here to help. We do not judge, and we do not take any personal details. Our promise of anonymity is absolute. Crime has a devastating impact on victims and communities, but everyone has a role to play in helping to create safer places to live. In more than 35 years, Crimestoppers has always kept its promise of anonymity to everyone who contacts us.” Inspector Anthony England, who leads the Clear Hold Build team, said: “The CHB method has a proven track record of reducing crime and empowering communities elsewhere in Derbyshire and across the country. Since launching the project here in Derby a few months ago we have already made dozens of arrests as part of our proactive work to disrupt criminal gangs – and this will continue. “We very much welcome the support of Crimestoppers as intelligence from the community is the lifeblood of policing. I would encourage anyone who has concerns about criminality to please come forward and report it.” | ||
