Resident, A man who stabbed a friend after an all-night drinking binge has been jailed.
The incident took place on 29 May, 2024, in Connaught Court, Alfreton, when the force received multiple 999 calls to reports of a stabbing and a man armed with a knife.
Officers rushed to the scene and quickly located Craig Goodwin – who had locked himself in a car while his victim lay bleeding from a serious injury to his face.
Unarmed officers challenged Goodwin with Tasers drawn to protect the public and ensure that he was not able to hurt anyone else.
After his arrest he was taken to hospital for an injury to his hand – where he promptly urinated on the floor and headbutted a police officer. Goodwin’s victim required six units of blood and four blood transfusions, as well as emergency surgery to his face, and will be left with a permanent scar as a result.
The 47-year-old was charged with section 18 wounding with intent, possession of a knife in public, and assaulting an emergency worker.
On 7 January this year (2026) Goodwin appeared at Derby Crown Court where he was jailed for three years and six months after pleading guilty to all the charges. |
