Ignoring road closure signs can lead to prosecution |

Volunteer community wardens working hard to protect rural communities following yesterday's floods, told police that several motorists were ignoring road closure signs leading to unnecessary risks to local people.
In Repton, a number of drivers ignored the obvious dangers of entering flood water, with several becoming stuck in the rising waters. National recovery companies attended several locations to remove stricken vehicles trapped in the floods.
And on Pinfold Lane in Repton, a motorist was observed by police driving through a road closure. The driver came to a stop near the junction with High Street. Police engaged with the male motorist, who, before his details could be taken, carelessly drove forward.
The male was stopped at the location and issued with a Traffic Offence Report.
And whilst at the same incident, police were disappointed to see a second motorists sling traffic closure signs aside, which were keeping drivers and pedestrians safe, before entering a road closure. This male motorist was also issued with a Traffic Offence Report.
Please do not ignore road closure signs - they have been placed there to protect people and it is an offence to drive through them.
Your local officer will continue to patrol villages over the weekend.
