🚦 COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH – THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS! 🚦 Within Derbyshire, speeding continues to be one of the biggest concerns raised by our communities — and one of the “Fatal Four” factors that contribute to serious and fatal collisions. Key 2025 Provisional Road Safety Data (Great Britain): Total Fatalities: Estimated 1,579 (a 3% decrease from June 2024). KSI Casualties: Nearly 30,000 people were killed or seriously injured (KSI). Total Casualties: Approximately 127,161 of all severities. That’s why the work of our Community Speed Watch (CSW) volunteers is so important. Across Derbyshire this year, our incredible CSW groups have: The presence alone of CSW helps deter speeding, makes drivers think twice, and provides vital data to help shape enforcement and improve road safety. Community Speed Watch isn’t about penalties — it’s about education, prevention, and empowering local people to take an active role in protecting their neighbourhoods. The impact is clear. National studies show that properly run Speed Watch schemes can contribute to reductions in repeat speeding, and in some areas, over 94% of first‑time letter recipients never reoffend. 💛 A HUGE THANK YOU Your dedication saves lives, strengthens communities, and makes a real difference. If you’ve ever thought about taking part, or your village is concerned about speeding, please get in touch with your local Safer Neighbourhood Team. 🚓 Together, we’re making Derbyshire safer — one session at a time. | ||
