YOUR DOG, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY As of 18 March 2026, new legislation has come into force across England and Wales aimed at tackling livestock worrying by dogs. Police now have stronger powers and access to tougher penalties for these offences. If you are a dog owner, it is strongly recommended that you familiarise yourself with the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025. What counts as an offence?You may commit an offence if your dog: Simply frightening or causing livestock to run is enough to constitute an offence.
