Man arrested on suspicion of murder following death of woman in Linton

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman.

Officers were called to reports that a woman had been found with stab wounds at a property in The Crest, Linton, Swadlincote, at just after 2.30pm today (Sunday 21 June).

A 72-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

The woman’s family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Inspector Tony Owen, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), who is leading the investigation, said: “Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area whilst we carry out our enquiries.

“We are aware that this may cause some concern in the community but I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident.

“If you have any concerns or would like to pass on any information, please feel free to approach officers.”

As part of our investigation, we are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.
