We have identified a recent increase in allotments being targeted where tools are being stolen and sheds being broken into across Derby East, Derby North and Erewash areas. We’re encouraging allotment holders to take a few simple steps to help protect their plots and reduce opportunities for thieves such as: Shed Security Remove valuables: Take all expensive tools and power equipment home whenever you leave.Upgrade locks: Fit heavy-duty hasps and closed-shackle padlocks to your doors.Protect hinges: Replace standard screws with tamper-proof coach bolts and security screws.Cover windows: Board over shed windows or use security film to hide your belongings from view.Anchor items: Chain large or heavy equipment to a strong anchor point inside the shed.Install alarms: Use a loud, battery-operated shed alarm to scare off intruders Site & Perimeter Lock the gates: Always ensure the main allotment perimeter gates are locked behind you.Use plants as barriers: Plant thorny bushes near fences and vulnerable windows to stop climbers.Remove climbing aids: Keep rubbish bins, composters, and ladders away from the fence line For more crime prevention advice, please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team or visit: www.derbyshire.police.uk |
