Third fire incident around Drakelow |
||
|
Hi everyone, Early this afternoon the emergency services were called to a large grass fire that started near Waterside, Staffordshire before spreading into the field near to Burton boat club on the Derbyshire side of the county border. The fire quickly spread towards a field at the lower end of Galloway Road, Drakelow where at least three detached homes were placed at risk. Fire Fighters from both Derbyshire and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Services, supported by Officers from Derbyshire and Staffordshire Police worked together to bring the situation under control. As a precaution, local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the heavy smoke. As the fire continued to spread towards the edge of Dracan village, additional fire crews were deployed to help contain the blaze. Local residents have reported that there have been several similar grass fires over the past ten days. While some believe these incidents may be linked to arson, this has not been officially confirmed. If you have any information that could assist the investigation, or if you believe you know who may be responsible for deliberately starting fires, please contact Derbyshire Police confidentially by calling 101. Finally a huge thanks that goes to all the firefighters and emergency service personnel from both counties for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work in bringing this dangerous fire under control. Their efforts helped protect homes and the wider community - thank goodness 🙏 | ||
