#Guilty | Burglar caught showing off on Snapchat after stealing car pleads guilty
A burglar who was caught showing off on Snapchat after stealing a car has pleaded guilty to numerous offences.
Liam Taylor stole the car from outside a home in Swadlincote and then posted a video of himself driving around in the vehicle to the social media platform.
We received a call from the victims stating that someone had gotten into their home in Church Gresley in the early hours of Friday 24 July and had stolen the keys to their Toyota Aygo before driving off in it.
One of the victims posted details of the incident to Facebook and a member of the public identified the offender and sent them the Snapchat video of him in the vehicle.
The video shows Taylor driving around in the stolen Toyota with gloves on whilst singing and rapping.
A short while after stealing the car, Taylor crashed into a van in Bretby Road, Swadlincote, before fleeing the scene with a Buzz Ball drink in the direction of a nearby Sainsbury’s.
Officers were then called out to reports of a man knocking on people’s doors in South Drive, Swadlincote.
Taylor was found in the garden of a property and arrested.
While being transported to custody, Taylor kicked out at officers multiple times inside a police van.
Taylor refused to be interviewed but was charged with numerous offences, including two counts of burglary (one in relation to the offence above and another for intending to steal from a property in South Drive, Newhall), theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance and assaulting a police officer.
The 21-year-old, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to all charges during an appearance at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday 27 July.
He was remanded into custody and is due to appear before Derby Crown Court for sentence on Monday 17 August.
