Community Concern Helps Prevent a Serious Incident

Thanks to the vigilance of worried residents and motorists in Findern, a potentially dangerous situation became an opportunity for education and a positive intervention.

Locals reported seeing a young person hurtling around the village on an e-scooter dangerously and anti-socially, including riding into traffic, narrowly missing vehicles, and along pavements and paths. This is very dangerous and puts not only the rider, but pedestrians and other road users, at risk. An elderly resident stated that she was almost hit by the e-scooter whilst walking to a local bus stop.

Officer Bob identified the youth and brought him (and his parent) to the police station for a road safety conversation. They discussed the potential consequences of his actions (including potential road traffic offences) and the importance of making responsible choices.

This intervention was important, because policing isn’t just about enforcement – it’s also about engagement, education and working with our communities to prevent harm.

His father also took the matter seriously, confiscating the teenager’s phone and ensuring he apologised for his behaviour.
