We are seeing an increase in people cold calling offering gardening services and roof repairs. We all know the scenario you are at home relaxing when an unexpected visit catches you off guard. They are just working in the area when they have spotted a problem with your roof, or a tree or maybe your drive needs improving and as they are in the area they could do it for you cheap. Our advice is however tempting it is just stop, don't agree to anything. These people work by pressuring and rushing you into a decision, invariably the work will end up costing considerably more that the first price you are given and the uplift in price is often demanded with intimidation. The whole scenario is best avoid.

Our top tips;

Never agree anything on the doorstep just say no.

If you are unsure simply do not answer the door, they will move on to the next house.

If you do need work, get at least a couple of quotes from different firms.

Insist on a written quote, it ensure you know what work is and isn't included.

Try to use known firms either local or national.

If you feel vulnerable or frightened call the police

Remember if they are a genuine trader they will not object to you taking the time to consider the work or asking for quotes from other firms.
