This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Craig, in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors- Sgt Adams and PCSO Supervisor Wallington-Waite. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find: A summary of the previous priorities The actions taken and outcomes achieved The new priorities for the upcoming quarterNew priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. The previous priorities were: Drug use/distribution.Theft of and from vehicles.Anti-social behaviour (ASB)Actions Taken: For Drug use/distribution we have the following results: - Completed foot/ bike and vehicle patrols around known hotspot locationsConducted drugs Warrant at a property on Belvoir crescent the investigation to this is ongoingA Male was found with class A and class B drugs located in a car on Queens drive Midway- investigation ongoingA disqualified driver was stopped driving by Police and has been charged with traffic offences; driver also tests positive at roadside for drugs. We have conducted Partnership working with SDDC Housing around Belvoir crescent regarding cannabis smokingIn relation to Theft of and from vehicles we have: - Completed foot/ bike and vehicle patrols around known hotspot locationsHeld a tool marking event and crime prevention events throughout the areaSNT have conducted targeted nighttime patrolsAdded crime prevention advice posts on face book and Derbyshire alertFor ASB we have – Completed foot/ bike and vehicle patrols around known hotspot locationsConducted a talk around ASB at Newhall Cubs Held weekly sessions through our Mini police programme at Newhall junior Worked closely with the ASB officer at SDDC and YET relating to those youths’ causing issues in the areaPlaced an adult female causing issues in the Newhall on a Community protection notice warning to hopefully deter her behaviour from continuing, if it does she will be issued a formal notice which if breaches results ion a fine then ongoing breaches are referred to courtWe have seized several E Scooters in the area1 youth have been sent warning letters for repeated ASB in the Newhall area and 1 has been placed on an Acceptable behaviour contract for a minimum of 3 months which sets conditions to abide by to address the behaviour this youth also took part in an intervention input from our Youth engagement PCSO Following a review the new priorities have now been set, they are: - Serious Acquisitive CrimeEducation surrounding crime prevention relevant to the areaProactive targeted patrols for possession of Drugs and Drug dealingIn relation to Serious Acquisitive Crime, we will: Continue high visibility and plain clothes patrols in hotspot areas. Share crime prevention advice through social media, community events and Derbyshire Alert, raising awareness of current issues. Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV. Work with partners including local authorities, bordering police forces and national policing teams to share intelligence and prevent offending. To help educate relating to crime prevention relevant to the area we will: - Send out fortnightly messages around Crime prevention, monitoring reports made to Police and partners to identifying any crime trends and tailor our advice to these.Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV. Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting.Hold crime prevention events throughout the area.In relation to Proactive targeted patrols for possession of Drugs and drug dealing, we will: - Gather and follow community intelligence and conduct regular high visibility and plain clothes patrols in known hotspot areas, taking proactive enforcement if offences located. Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reportingWork closely with our Youth Engagement team to help deter youths away from drug use.One of our Neighbourhood priorities has been set following engagement with youths and our Youth Engagement team (YET) This Youth Voice priority is not based on any Police/ Partnership data, it is purely on what they have told the team they feel as youths living across South Derbyshire is the biggest area of concern to them. The results from this have highlighted- Fear of knife crime As Section Inspector for South Derbyshire, we are lucky to have a low rate of violent crime across all areas but I welcome the chance for the team to work on making Youths feel safer and hopefully eliminate this fear around knife crime, this work with incorporate work we already do throughout the year which is highlighted during the National bi-yearly Operation Sceptre. https://www.derbyshire.police.uk/police-forces/derbyshire-constabulary/areas/derbyshire-force-content/campaigns/campaigns/2023/knife-crime/ The youth engagement team will continue to their work in engagement and diversionary activities including: - School engagement and input – more focused on knife crime during Op Sceptre WeeksWork with partner agencies such as sporting communities and safe and sound and young people in the community to divert them away from ASB and criminality Engage with local youth groups and deliver key messaging and provide support and adviceComplete regular visits to nominals identified through our serious violence tasking meetings to educate and refer to support services Make use of our safer knife replacement scheme when a child is identified as a potential knife carrier. Conduct Hi-Visibility patrols in priority areas – identified hotspots or areas of concern. Attend local events and provide safety advice and education. Work alongside Child at risk of exploitation and missing persons teams identify young people of concern. |
