Glossop SNT - "Be Bright, Be Seen" - THINK! Road Safety.
The "Be Bright, Be Seen" road safety campaign educates pedestrians, cyclists, and school children on how to stay visible to drivers during dark mornings, dull weather, and winter months.
🔴 Key Tips for Children's Visibility
▪️ Daytime vs. Nighttime Gear: Use fluorescent clothing (such as bright yellow, pink, or orange) for daytime, dull, or misty weather. Use reflective materials (such as strips, bands, or tags) for dark evenings so car headlights bounce back
▪️ Accessories: Add high-visibility tags, slap bands, or reflective stickers to school rucksacks, coats, and zipper pulls
▪️ Active Travel: When cycling or scooting, always use working front and rear bike lights and wear a properly fitted helmet.
▪️ Safe Crossing: Stop at the curb, look and listen both ways, and use designated pedestrian or patrolled crossings wherever possible. Avoid crossing between parked cars.
🔴 General Tips for Visibilty for pedestrians and cyclists
🌤️ Daytime (Dull or Misty Weather): ▪️ Wear fluorescent or neon colors (such as bright yellow, orange, pink, or red) because they show up best in daylight and low-light or dusk conditions. Fluorescent gear does not work in the dark
🌃 Nighttime: ▪️ Wear Reflective materials and clothing (such as vests, sashes, or wristbands) that glow brightly when car headlights shine on them. Reflective tags can make you visible to drivers up to three times farther away than non-reflective materials.
🛵 🚲 Bikes and Scooters: ▪️ By law, cyclists must use a working white front light and a red rear light at night, along with red rear reflectors and pedal/spoke reflectors
🔦 Accessories: ▪️Smaller items like clip-on reflectors, slap bands, bright school bags, or LED lights (headlamps and sashes) also greatly improve safety
