Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

A would-be burglar from Chesterfield has been jailed for attempting to break into a house thanks to the help of an eagle-eyed neighbour who contacted us.

Steven Partridge, 33, formerly of Bower Farm Road, Old Whittington, was arrested following a report from a member of the public who said they had seen a man acting suspiciously and trying the doors of a house on Storrs Road, Brampton.

The 999 call came in just after noon on Wednesday 18 September, and our officers arrived, chased and arrested the man just six minutes later on Westbourne Grove.

He was searched and officers found clothing and tools which are typically used in burglaries.

Mr Partridge was questioned and subsequently charged with attempted burglary, and appeared at Derby Crown Court on Thursday 10 October.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

Insp. Dave Nicholls, who is in charge of policing in the Chesterfield, said: “This case really shows how valuable timely information from the local community can be and I would like to thank the member of the public who contacted us to report their concerns.

“I hope that this result reassures the local community that we are committed to keeping our area safe, targeting crime and bringing offenders to justice.”
