Alert message sent 23/10/2019 10:13:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

Officers from our Safer Neighbourhood teams in Willington and Etwall have been busy security marking bikes in local schools.

Earlier this week on Monday 21 October, they visited both Willington Primary School and John Port Academy in Etwall to offer free security marking for pupil’s bikes.

PCSO supervisor, Kerry Wallington-Waite, explained: “For lots of reasons we are keen to encourage safe cycling to our local schools because as well as the obvious health benefits it helps in reducing the traffic and parking issues.

“The bike marking scheme works by marking the bike with a unique code linked to the owner’s details on a secure database. If their cycle is stolen and subsequently found, we can use this code to ensure the bike is returned to its rightful owner and prove it is stolen.

“The marking by is usually £12 but is being offered free by our Safer Neighbourhood team.

“We were very pleased with the turn out an marked over 50 bikes in the day.”
