Three people charged after officers find weapons in a car in Heanor

Three people have been charged after officers found weapons in a car in Heanor.

Officers saw a Vauxhall Astra in Market Street at around 3.30pm on Sunday 26 January, which they believed to have been stolen.

They approached the car and found two knives and a what appeared to be a gun inside.

Three people were arrested at the scene and later charged.

Iain McKinlay (29) of Field View, South Normanton, has been charged with drink-driving, possessing an imitation firearm, two counts of possessing a knife in public, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Courtney West (20), of Huftons Drive, Heanor and Daniel Handley (27) of Pinewood, Codnor, have both been charged with possessing an imitation firearm and two counts of possessing a knife in public.

All three are due to appear before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today.
